The launch of Freeview high-definition (HD) transmissions in December 2009, from the Winter Hill and Crystal Palace transmitters, were a bog step foward for subscription free HD in the UK.

Freeview is owned and run by the BBC, BSkyB, Channel 4, ITV and Arqiva and all are promoting this new HD service.
