XBMC Running on a Popcorn Hour
May 11th
A clever chap called EJP posted a rather interesting video of his handy work. EJP has got XBMC up and running on the NMT platform, the video below shows off XBMC on a Popcor
n Hour A110 so just think how fast it would be on a A200!
You can check out all the info over at the networked media tank forums – be sure to keep an eye out for updates!
On a personal note all I have wanted since I sold my xbox was XBMC up and running on a media player without the hassle of a HTPC.
I was mostly inactive for the last few months (for those who noticed) because of this. To keep it under wraps, I decided to work mostly alone and seek help outside of the NMT community. Naturally, XBMC needs no introduction.
With Flash Lite GUIs in development, I felt I needed to completely trump all current GUIs and jukeboxes. All the work was completely done. We just needed to get it to “work.”
Early on, I realized that if I could get this working, this would certainly revolutionize the NMT. If you think about it, we would be instantly backed by the entire XBMC community. That’s 7 years of development and a 50,000+ userbase.
I can’t go much into detail about this project as this is still in beta. It is close enough to completion that I can offer this to beta testers, but it will be extremely closed, even more so than the Alaska beta (for those who remember). If all goes well, a first public release should be within reach.
All I can discuss is what’s in the video:
1. I am running a version of XBMC Live via USB. However, it should just as easilly be installed to an internal hard drive.
2. The default interface (Confluence) can sometimes be sluggish, but optimizing XBMC and the skin is in the works. Simpler skins, such as Alaska, should run smoother. As mentioned, this is an extremely closed beta. This means:
1. I will NOT be accepting candidates for beta testers. Instead, I will be messaging YOU, offering you a position on the beta testing team. Please do not ask why I haven’t chosen you. Please do not take it personally if I don’t choose you.
2. I will only speak about development to beta testers, whoever they might be. You can ask as many questions as you like, but I can only guarantee answers to beta testers.
3. I will not be posting the list of beta testers, so beta testers must interact directly with me only.
We expect a public beta test soon, so finally the A200/C200 gets a good UI

1080p HD Is Coming To YouTube
Nov 13th
Good news for those of you interested in our Pocket HD Camcorder range.
Now is a good time to read our Pocket HD Camcorder Guide and get filming and sharing those moments online.
We’re excited to say that support for watching 1080p HD videos in full resolution is on its way. Starting next week, YouTube’s HD mode will add support for viewing videos in 720p or 1080p, depending on the resolution of the original source, up from our maximum output of 720p today.
As resolution of consumer cameras increases, we want to make sure YouTube is the best home on the web to showcase your content. For viewers with big monitors and a fast computer, try switching to 1080p to get the most out of the fullscreen experience.

IPlayer – DS Video Player
Oct 1st
The new iPlayer – A media player for the DS, DSLite and DSi which plays media files directly without having to convert them first.
Because of its hardware limitations, the Nintendo DS has never really been a great platform for watching videos. But the new iPlayer could change that. Like with all the other flashcarts available for the DS the iPlayer is able to load “homebrew software” though the makers claim it will NOT be able to load backup ROMs.
What it will be able to do though is natively play video files without having to convert them to a DS-friendly format first, thanks to a built-in decoding chip. So you’ll be able to load AVI, RMVB, RM, FLV, ASF, MPG, MOV, WMV, DivX, or XviD video files onto a microSD card and play them natively off your DS.
If out of stock please call and pre order as the number of enquiries we have about this product means we won’t have stock for long as they go so quick.

DSi Compatible Cards
Aug 19th
As you know version 1.4 firmware for the DSi stopped a few cards working for now.
Since then the teams behind the cards have been hard at work and the good news is the EZVi and Acekard2i with updated software will work with version 1.4.
So we recommend If you are planning to update your DSi to 1.4, or if you purchased your DSi after 30th July 2009, please only consider the EZVi and Acekard2i for now.
You can grab the latest firmware from here:

New DSi 1.4 Firmware Update Blocks DSi Flashcarts.
Jul 31st
Nintendo has just released a firmware update for the Nintendo DSi, the firmware is currently available in Japan, Europe, and Australia. The new firmware will frustrate homebrewers as it blocks all DSi-compatible flashcarts such as Acekard 2i and DSTTi etc.
A couple of flashcarts such as the M3i Zero and the very popular Supercard DSONEi were designed for this scenario and support their own firmware updates via USB dongles.
Obviously DSi owners can choose not to download or install the 1.4 update and still use flashcarts
Other changes with the 1.4 firmware update include support for uploading DSi photos directly to popular social networking site Facebook and faster image display speeds with DSi Camera.
It would be rude of us to not inform customers of this change…

Popcorn Hour Software Spotlight – (YAMJ) Yet another Movie Jukebox
Feb 24th
(YetAnother)MovieJukebox is a command line tool, written in Java, which recursively scans your video library for video files (AVI, MKV, etc.) and analyzes these files in order to extract information like: year, language, subtitles, container, part, fps, audio and video codecs. Other movie and television information like, director, rating, etc. are collected using various plugins for online databases such as IMDb, TheMovieDB, TheTVDB, Allocine, FilmAffinity, FilmWeb, etc.
MovieJukebox generates a bunch of XML movie descriptions and indexes as well as HTML reports that are compatible with the Popcorn Hour NMT : HTML reports embed links for playing the movie directly from the jukebox. Supports user created skins that allow for the complete customization of the HTML reports.
Use this with the TV Meta Data Finder to search all your TV Series files and it will automatically rename them to something sensible.
You can even get all sorts of cool skins for it!
So you want to get started? have a read of the YAMJ wiki and if you have any questions ask them in the YAMJ forum. Oh and the best thing is it will work on all our NMT models (HDX1000 ioBox HD100 etc)
