How To Install & Setup an Acekard2i
Congratulations on purchasing one of the best value for money DS flash cards around the AceKard2i
So you now have a AceKard2i all you need to do is grab a Micro SD USB reader and we can start installing the files the AceKard2i needs so it can play your backups and homebrew applications.
First of all insert the Micro SD card into the USB adapter, we will need this later.
Next up download the AceKard2i software/kernel from our support site here.
At time of writing the latest software/kernel for the AceKard2i was version 4.21.
When you download select the latest software version (the highest number) and save it somewhere sensible, perhaps make a new folder on your desktop. In this example I have downloaded the file to a new folder on my desktop called “acekard2i”.
The file is a .zip file, this is a compressed file and the file(s) we are after are in the zip file so we need to extract it’s contents.
If like most people you are using Windows XP/Vista/7 then you are in luck as you can extract it by simply right clicking the file and selecting “Extract All…” Or you can use winzip or winrar to extract the files.
This will prompt a new box to appear asking where you want the extracted file to go to, just leave everything as it is and click Extract.
This will extract the file in a new sub folder where the zip file was saved to. The extraction process may take a while as there are lots of little files to process.
This will give you a folder looking like this:
So now you have the files you need, now we need to copy/move them onto the Micro SD card, so grab your Micro SD card and USB adapter. Insert the Micro SD card into the adapter and put the adapter into a spare USB slot on your PC.
Windows will recognise the reader and it will appear as a removable drive.
Now if this is the first time you have installed the software/kernel it’s a good idea to format your micro SD on your computer. This is to remove all the data on the memory card.
- After inserting the micro SD into the card reader, go to My Computer
- Right click the drive representing the micro SD memory card
- Select Format
Leave the default options as they are and it should look like this:

The only differences may be the capacity I am using a 4Gb card and drive letter.
Remember to leave the file system set to FAT 32 and select Quick format if not ticked and then click start.
When it has finished click ok.
Now copy/move the software/kernel folder and files over to the root of the newly formatted Micro SD card, the root is the main level of the micro sd card.
The micro sd card should now look like this:
Copy your own files (music, movies, pictures and homebrew games to the micro SD memory card as well at this point)
Disconnect the micro SD card and insert it into the AceKard2i and then plug the AceKard2i into your DS/DSL/DSi console and enjoy!
When you turn your console on the card will look like this:
In this connected world we live in feel free to share this guide with other users – facebook – twitter – email – forums etc…
