How to update an Acekard 2i to work on DSi 1.4 Firmware

So have a DSi running firmware version 1.4 or above and need to get your Acekard2i working with it? No problem read on for our Acekard2i 1.4 Guide.

If you want to update you AceKard 2i on your DSi console then you need to make sure the DSi has firmware lower than version 1.4 installed. If you do not know how to check what firmware version your DSi has, please see our guide here.

If it has already been updated ton version 1.4 then you will need to use a DS Lite console to update your Acekard 2i.

What you will need to update your AceKard2i Card to work with 1.4 firmware:

  • A DSi Console with Firmware lower than 1.4X (1.4E, 1.4J, 1.4U & 1.4A) e.g 1.3 or 1.2
  • If you dont have a DSi with pre 1.4 firmware you can use a DS Lite Console.
  • An Acekard2i Card with V4.21 (or later) software loaded on – this is available here.
  • Download the Acekard2i Update for DSi firmware 1.4 from here and save it somewhere on your desktop, We suggest you make a new folder called “Acekard”.

Please take note, the firmware is different from the software/kernel.

If you dont have version v4.21 software loaded onto a micro SD card then please follow this guide How To Install & Setup an Acekard2i and come back to this page when complete.

First of all confirm you have the Acekard2i software installed, if you insert the Acekard2i you should see the following when you load up your console.

Now find the Acekard2i firmware update you downloaded, the file is a .zip file, this is a compressed file and the file(s) we are after are in the zip file so we need to extract it’s contents.

If like most people you are using Windows XP/Vista/7 then you are in luck as you can extract it by simply right clicking the file and selecting “Extract All…” Or you can use winzip or winrar to extract the files.

This will prompt a new box to appear asking where you want the extracted file to go to, just leave everything as it is and click Extract.

This will extract the file in a new sub folder where the zip file was saved to. The extraction process may take a while as there are lots of little files to process.

This will give you a folder looking like this:

As you can see there are two firmware update files
DSi - ak2ifw_update_14_DSi.nds

DS Lite – ak2ifw_update_14_DSL.nds

In this example will be using the DSL file (as were updating it on a DS Lite)

Now copy the appropriate firmware file to the root folder of the micro SD, your Micro SD card should now look like this:

Insert the micro SD in to the Acekard 2i and insert the Acekard 2i into the DS console. Power up the console and select the micro SD card icon.

Select the micro SD card.

Select AK2IFW_UPDATE_14_DSL.NDS by pressing A or using the stylus.

if prompted remove the Acekard and insert it again then press B to continue.

You will then be prompted to update the firmware – click start.

You will see the % slowly move up to 100%

Once the firmware has been updated you will see the following screen. Just reboot the DS and you are all set!

The Acekard2i icon on the DSi main menu has been changed but dont worry this is by design.
