How To Install & Setup The Toptoy DSTT & DSTTi

Congratulations on purchasing one of the best value for money DS flash cards around the DSTT/DSTTi

So you now have a DSTT/DSTTi all you need to do is grab a Micro USB reader and we can start installing the files the DSTT/DSTTi needs so it can play your backups and homebrew applications.

The first step here is to download the DSTT/DSTTi software/kernel from here.

Download the latest software version and save it somewhere sensible, perhaps make a new folder on your desktop.

I have downloaded the file to a new folder on my desktop called “DSTTi”.

At time of writing the latest software/kernal for the DSTT/DSTTi was version 1.17.

Once downloaded you will have one .zip file, a ZIP file is a compressed file that can contain many files and folders.

The file we are after is in the zip file so we need to extract it. If like most people you are using Windows XP/Vista/7 then you are in luck as you can extract it by simply right clicking the file and selecting “Extract All…” Or you can use winzip or winrar to extract the files.

This will prompt a new box to appear asking where you want the extracted file to go to just leave everything as it is and click Extract.

This will extract the file in a new sub folder where the zip file was saved to.

The extraction process may take a while as there are lots of little files to process.

This will give you a folder looking like this:

Now this is the important bit and the cause of the most frequentt support calls we get here at Digital Era.

You need to double click the eng folder as it is the contents of the folder we are interested in.

The eng folder has in it a folder and some files as you can see in the picture below. These files need to be copied to a micro SD card. Once again I can not stress enough that we dont want to copy the “eng” folder over we want to copy its contents over.

So now you have the files you need now we need to get them onto the Micro SD card, so grab your Micro SD card and USB adapter. Insert the Micro SD card into the adapter and put the adapter into a USB slot on your PC.

Windows will recognise the reader and it will appear as a removable drive.

Now if this is the first time you have installed the software/kernel then it is a good idea to format your microSD on your computer. This is to remove all the data on the memory card.

  • After inserting the micro SD into the card reader, go to My Computer
  • Right click the drive representing the micro SD memory card
  • Choose Format

Leave the default options as they are and it should look like this:

The only differences may be the capacity I am using a 4Gb card and drive letter.

Remember to leave the file system set to FAT 32 and select Quick format if not ticked and then click start.

When it has finished click ok.

Now copy or move the software/kernel folder and files over to the root of the newly formatted Micro SD card, the root is the main level of the micro sd card, the micro sd card should now look like this:

It will be a good idea to copy your own files, music, movies, pictures and homebrew games to the micro SD memory card as well at this point.

Disconnect the Micro SD card and insert it into the DSTT/DSTTi  and then plug the DSTT/DSTTi into your DS/DSL/DSi console and enjoy!

The card will appear as Star Wars Lethal Alliance (this is by design)

In this connected world we live in feel free to share this guide with other users – facebook – twitter – email – forums etc…
