Netgear EVA9000>EVA9150 First Look
Dec 12th
The world got an early look at the new Netgear EVA9000 a few weeks back. The popular technology news site www.wired.com have obtained some extra details on the media player including a name change. It seems the EVA9000 is now called the EVA9150.
Netgear plan to sell the device for $400 (£266?) - What it will be in the UK is anyone’s guess, but I’m sure you noticed it was more than a Popcorn Hour. One important thing to note is the price includes a 500GB SATA hard drive, no news on make/model.
How well it performs is unknown and we will have to wait until early January for the first reviews to trickle through.

I have a suspicion that the EVA9000 AND EVA9150 are two different models, one without a hard drive and the other sold with a 500GB drive but don’t hold me to that…
Should we stock them? Let us know if you are interested.
Thanks to the guys at www.newteevee.com we have a demo of the EVA9000 running YouTube @ 720p (commentary from Netgear’s Senior of Product Marketing, David Henry)
The Future? The Netgear EVA9000 Digital Entertainer Elite
Dec 2nd
Surely anything with the word elite (from the Latin, eligere, “to elect” – impressed?) in its product title must be worth getting. Does make you wonder what they will call the next product to top the elite.
Details on the next HD media player from Netgear have been “leaked” onto the internet and the story has been picked up by every gadget blog and news site – You cant put a price on free advertising like this!
It seems Netgear submitted the player to the big brains at the FCC for testing and approval and some sneaky so and so made the documents public. Netgear were waiting for CES (Vegas this year) in early January to show off the new player but lucky for you and me we get to have a good ogle now.
The EVA9000 is designed to replace the EVA8000 from Netgear that has been around for a few years and enjoyed moderate success.
So what can the Netgear EVA9000 offer us in a very competitive and crowded media player market?
The Netgear EVA9000 has an internal 3.5″ SATA drive slot, fast dual band 802.11n wireless and a wired 10/100 network port so you can stream and store media files.
The Netgear EVA9000 can playback most HD movie and audio formats including AVI, DivX, XviD, h.264 and most important of all MKV files. Other formats include TS, M2TS, VOB, ISO. Surround-sound processing from Dolby True-HD, DTS 5.1, and DTS-HD Master Audio sources is no problem either. All this is fairly standard these days and good news for the consumer.
Connection wise the Netgear EVA9000 has HDMI (1.3), Component, s-video, scart, coaxial SPDIF, optical SPDIF, Ethernet and 2x USB 2.0 (front / back).
No idea on pricing yet (we have asked) but we should know more details early in the new year.
