YouTube Coming Back to the A200/C200
May 11th
Missed Youtube? own a A200 or C200? then lucky you! Steve Young from Syabas posted the following on the NMT forums.
Yes we will be bringing Youtube back to the A-200 and C-200. It will be delivered as an application similar to that of Rev3 and other apps right now.
A-100/A-110′s will not have it because we can only deliver the Flash Version of Youtube, and can no longer support the html version.

Best Media player(s) in March?
Mar 8th
If we had a penny for every phone call asking us what media player is the best one to buy we would have enough for a giant size Kit Kat each day
The best media player is a tough one, every forum or review will always have someone who has a negative comment, normally Mr Angry venting his lack of understanding at a poor little media player. It’s not often someone takes time out to write something positive. This makes picking a media player hard work, because as soon as you have made your mind up after weeks of research you read about someone’s bad time with the model you are after.
Unfortunately there is no perfect media player, otherwise we would just sell the one option and leave it at that. As it is we constantly review our media player line up, hence we just said good bye to the WDTV live and Asus Oplay regardless of how well they sold.

YouTube Pulls Access From Popcorn Hour
Nov 20th
This was reported on mpcclub.com a few days ago but engadget just released some infomation on the situation.
Hope you weren’t enjoying watching YouTube on the television screen via Popcorn Hour and other set-top boxes, as they have been given notice by the newly 1080p and network TV-friendly website that they are no longer welcome to access its content. The new Hulu-ish Terms of Service (section II, item 10) restricts API clients from the ability to “use the YouTube API in connection with any API Client created for use on television set top boxes, television game consoles, or video screens packaged and marketed as television sets;” according to Popcorn Hour COO Alex Limberis this applies to all with the exception of “a few strategic partner’s Google has singled out” — PlayStation 3, Wii, TiVo, Panasonic, Samsung and other licensed hardware is safe.
Update: After speaking with Alex we’ve got a better view of the situation — as is clear from the TOS, manufacturers streaming directly via the API as Popcorn Hour did are no longer welcome without cutting a seven figure check to license access. Google did offer to allow continued access via its YouTube XL interface, but for devices like theirs not built around Flash, that possible solution proved to be technologically unfeasible. Obviously these changes apply to all, but as of yet we’re not aware of anyone other than Popcorn Hour that has been contacted directly about it.
Update v2: After the break is Google’s response, stating Popcorn Hour and the like have been in violation of the above TOS for over a year, from its perspective, this is a simple matter of defending its rights from “video scraping technology.” As we mentioned above that means most are in no danger of losing access, but fans of these media streamers will have to live without it, until either YouTube can control the experience or the manufacturer pays up.
Google’s statement:Since July of 2008, YouTube’s Terms of Service has restricted implementations for televisions based on our APIs. YouTube has been in active discussions with various developers on how best to implement YouTube on set top boxes and TVs. There are several companies, however, that have deployed solutions, like video scraping technology, to circumvent the rules and violate YouTube’s Terms of Service. Companies that have negotiated agreements to use our APIs, like TiVo, Sony, Panasonic and PS3 are not impacted.

What is a Popcorn Hour C-200?
It could be the ultimate digital media player, the Popcorn Hour C-200 is the most powerful and versatile
member of the Networked Media Tank family. Building on the success of the Popcorn Hour A-110, the C-200 combines an upgraded processor, optional Blu-ray capability, and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for blazing fast file access and transfer.
With Popcorn Hour you can stream or playback digital media content from a variety of sources, such as your PC, network-attached storage, digital camera or USB storage (Flash drive, HDD, DVD drive). Popcorn Hour also makes it easy to download and stream content directly from popular Internet sites like YouTube, Blip.tv, Revision 3 and dozens of other online content sources. Popcorn Hour even has a built-in download utility, eliminating the need to rely on your PC to download files from the Internet.
• Add a Blu-ray drive to turn your Popcorn Hour C-200 into a full-featured Blu-ray player.
• Create a central library of all your movie and video files, ready to play on your TV at any time.
• Enable local playback and offloading of media files from other devices.
• Easily share media with friends and family—Popcorn Hour can act as a file server to send files over the local area network and the Internet.
Popcorn Hour’s interface uses familiar HTML features and navigation prompts, so first-time users can quickly get up to speed on even the most advanced features. The C-200 uses RF remote control technology, which is functional over greater distances so you don’t need to be right in front of the device to control programming. What’s more, the newest Popcorn Hour has a built-in LCD front panel and navigation so you can access, manage and playback your MP3 music without going through the TV interface.
• Organize your media library with the myiHome Media Server streaming video utility.
• Play virtually any digital media files on your TV.

Popcorn Hour Software Spotlight – (YAMJ) Yet another Movie Jukebox
Feb 24th
(YetAnother)MovieJukebox is a command line tool, written in Java, which recursively scans your video library for video files (AVI, MKV, etc.) and analyzes these files in order to extract information like: year, language, subtitles, container, part, fps, audio and video codecs. Other movie and television information like, director, rating, etc. are collected using various plugins for online databases such as IMDb, TheMovieDB, TheTVDB, Allocine, FilmAffinity, FilmWeb, etc.
MovieJukebox generates a bunch of XML movie descriptions and indexes as well as HTML reports that are compatible with the Popcorn Hour NMT : HTML reports embed links for playing the movie directly from the jukebox. Supports user created skins that allow for the complete customization of the HTML reports.
Use this with the TV Meta Data Finder to search all your TV Series files and it will automatically rename them to something sensible.
You can even get all sorts of cool skins for it!
So you want to get started? have a read of the YAMJ wiki and if you have any questions ask them in the YAMJ forum. Oh and the best thing is it will work on all our NMT models (HDX1000 ioBox HD100 etc)

Popcorn Hour Skins
Nov 8th
This is for those souls like me who wanted to play back HD content on a Xbox but the poor thing just didn’t have enough power, so you made the leap from XBMC to a Popcorn Hour. I still think Microsoft missed the boat on this one, sure the Xbox 360 can playback some digital content with varying degrees of success but what they really needed to do is talk to the XBMC guys and get XBMC up and running on the 360. One box to rule them all…
Anyway for those of you missing the visuals of XBMC you will be interested to find out that the popular default skin from XBMC “Project Mayhem III“ is being ported over to the PCH. It is still a work in progress but well worth keeping an eye on. The port is being done by MixMan a talented user at the official networked media tank forums. For more information follow the jump here.
For a video of the skin in action press play below:
